SHILLONG: The AICC General Secretary in-charge Meghalaya, Luizinho Faleiro, has alleged that the petrol prices in the country have been raised by as much as 200 percent under the tenure of the BJP-led NDA government.
Addressing a press conference here after holding a march in the city to protest against the price rise, Faleiro said that even the prices of diesel had been increased by more than 400 percent
“ When we were in power, the price of petrol per barrel was from 107 to 170 US Dollars and we sold the petrol at 71 and today when the price of petrol was 73 US dollars per barrel, the prices of petrol and diesel are the highest,” he said
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, he said that the Central Government had been exporting petrol to foreign countries at a cheaper rate while the petroleum product within the country was being sold at such a high price.
Continuing his attack on the Central Government over demonetization, Rafale scam and falling Rupee, he also directed the Congress party in the state to raise issues of teachers and farmers.
He also said the culture of hatred, vengeance and intolerance was the primary agenda of the Central Government
The Leader of Opposition in Meghalaya, Mukul Sangma said that the spirit of democracy was under threat in the country and Congress would continue to fight against the anti-people agenda of the Government
Earlier, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) joined in the protest against the nationwide Bharat Bandh call and marched from Police Bazaar point through Police Bazaar area to Congress Bhawan exhibiting its protest against the rise in petroleum products
Meanwhile, the Bharat bandh had no impact in Shillong and all the commercial establishments and public transport service functioned normally. There was no impact of the bandh on schools, offices and colleges.
