Metbah for measures to attract foreign tourists

SHILLONG: Tourism Minister Metbah Lyngdoh informed that every year about 10 lakh tourists visit the state out of which just 1 per cent of the total is the foreign tourists.
He suggested that if Meghalaya is placed on the map of world tourism, then it might help attracting more foreign tourists.
The minister was speaking at the closing event of two-day national seminar on ‘Consolidation and Challenges of Tourism: The Road Ahead’ organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Shillong Commerce College on September 8.
Lyngdoh congratulated the college on its efforts to highlight on the pressing theme of tourism at the right time.
He asked the college as the organiser of the national seminar to generate resolutions that would help the state government and all stakeholders to chalk out the road ahead so that positive action could be taken to promote tourism.
S.S. Devbarman, Regional Director (North East), Ministry of Tourism (Guwahati) emphasised on domestic tourism as a catalyst and major contributor to the economic growth of a state.
According to him, North East is the most happening place in tourism and the active support of the media would definitely enhance tourism in the region.
