SHILLONG: The AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya, Luizinho Faleiro, who was not aware of the sudden resignation of former chief minister DD Lapang, said he could not meet the senior leader for the last three years.
During the recent visit of the AICC leader to Shillong, he could not meet Lapang and other senior leaders as discussion of revamping the party was with the MPCC president Celestine Lyngdoh, CLP leader Mukul Sangma and other party functionaries.
Lapang was holding the position of advisor to MPCC.
When contacted, Faleiro said over phone that he was yet to know the reason for his resignation.
The state party leadership is also surprised over Lapang’s decision to quit the party.
A Congress legislator admitted that it was a surprise for the state leaders.
“The news of his resignation came late, Hence, we plan to discuss the matter on Friday,” the legislator said.
Earlier, after Lapang decided not to contest the February 27 Assembly polls, he had asserted that he would continue to be in the party.
The octogenarian, who represented Nongpoh constituency since 1972 except a five-year break after he was defeated in 1993, opted out of electoral politics due to health reasons before the February polls.
