GH teachers meet CM over service upgradation
TURA: Leaders of the Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association (MUPSTA) and the All Garo Hills Adhoc Lower Primary School Teachers Association recently met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at his residence to discuss various issues concerning them. During the meeting, the issue of upgrading their services from Adhoc to Deficit System as allegedly assured by the chief minister during the MUPSTA’s state-level annual general conference at Asanang, was raised by the teachers. In reply, the chief minister is said to have assured that the government would first declare the State Education Policy after which step by step measures would be taken to look into the demand.
Special Interactive Programme held
NONGSTOIN: A one-day Special Interactive Programme (SIP) on the theme ‘Empowerment through Integration’ was organised by the office of the Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer, Mairang on Friday at Mawtharap Upper Primary School, SSA where hundreds of people and students from the village and its adjoining areas attended the programme. Noviana Passah, Sub Divisional Public Relations Officer, Mairang Civil Sub-Division chaired the event and also explained the purpose of SIP. Stating that the event aimed at creating an unique opportunity for the convergence of government departments and the intended beneficiaries in one platform where departments can highlight various schemes while citizen can hear first-hand about these schemes and raise queries or offer suggestions.
Disaster management for police force held
NONGSTOIN: The District Disaster Management Authority, (DDMA), Nongstoin conducted a two-day training programme for police personnel on Thursday and Friday at the Recreation Hall, 4th MLP (2nd IR) Battalion, Sohpian. The newly recruited batch of two ABSIs and 104 Bn constables also attended the programme held on emergency management, emergency rescue operation, basic first aid and mock drill.
Awareness on coffee plantation
JOWAI: To encourage farmers and young entrepreneurs of the district to take up coffee farming, the District Basin Development Unit, Jowai conducted an awareness programme on coffee plantation on Friday at the DC office conference room in Jowai. Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner cum Chairperson District Basin Development Unit, Jowai, DM Wallang encouraged the participants to take up coffee farming so as to have sustainable livelihood security in the long run. He also encouraged them to submit their applications so that the District Basin Development unit can tie-up with the coffee board and further forward their application to get the nursery by January. Resource person, BP Marwein Assistant Soil and Water Conservation Officer said the favorable climate, geographical and soil conditions in Jaintia Hills favours plantation of coffee.
Tablet PCs distributed
NONGSTOIN: The District Administration West Khasi Hills District distributed 1436 Tablet PC’s to students enrolled in Class XII during the academic year 2018 at Tysem Hall DC Office on Friday. M. Byrsat, Chairman Meghalaya Law Commission was the chief guest in presence of District Administrator P.D. Sangma, ADC. Addressing the gathering, Byrsat call upon the student to make use of the facilities provided by the government aimed to improve the quality of education and raise the standard of education in the state and to be at par with other students of the country.
BSF, CRPF organise Hindi Day
SHILLONG: The city based Border Security Force, and CRPF organised separate Hindi Diwas on Friday. Officers and other members of both the organizations were present at the function. Ashok Kumar, DIG (Operations) and President of Rajbhasha(Hindi) Committee distributed prizes to BSF personnel for winning various competitions. From the CRPF, Sham Chand, DIGP (Adm), H. S. Ghuman, Commandant-67 Bn, other officers and men were present during the ceremony. Rajbhasha Sandesh of Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, DGP CRPF was also read out.
