3-day strike by GHADC employees underway
TURA: Employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) began their three-day strike on Monday in protest against the failure of the authorities to release their pending dues. The three-day strike is being staged under the banner of the Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA), a body formed to look after the welfare of employees.
The salaries of the employees for a full 15 months are still pending after one month’s salary was paid to the employees last week on Friday. The first day’s strike rendered the usually busy Council standstill with employees staying away from their respective works and duties.
According to a source in the Council, authorities in the morning, had tried to persuade the employees not to go ahead with the strike which was turned down by leaders of the NGEA.
Efforts were made to contact the GHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM), Dipul Marak. However calls made to his personal mobile number could not get through.
