Investment on women is investment for future: Akbar

SHILLONG: Minister of State for External Affairs,MJ Akbar on Tuesday said that when the country invested on women, it was investing on future
Speaking at the Swachhta Hi Seva programme in Mawklot village in Upper Shillong, Akbar asserted that India’s growth rate had gone high since women had become the central part of economic emancipation
He said that it was a psychological torture for the women as they did not had proper opportunities earlier even as he added that today there were eight crore poor women in the country who have got LPG cylinders
Talking about the Swachh Bharat Mission, he said that the Mission had no end and it should become a part of daily life, adding this mission is important for children and future generations of the country.
“We achieved freedom from British long time back but we forgot freedom has to be from poverty, indignity and suffering,” he said.
Earlier, Urban Affairs Minister and local MLA , Hamlet Dohling said that Mawklot locality has great relevance to Swachhta Hi Seva programme
He also said that Meghalaya was a state where priority was given to cleanliness and it suited the objective of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have a clean nation.
“This Program will inculcate the spirit of how to maintain cleanliness not only in locality but even in our homes,” he said
Earlier, PHE Minister, Samlin Malngiang also spoke about the aims and objectives of the programme.
