SHILLONG: The SSA teachers in the state called off the statewide strike on Thursday after the government assured them that salary for five months would be released by next week.
The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) had announced a two-day leave en masse on September 24 and 25 to protest against the delay in payment of their salary and other dues.
Addressing reporters, president of MSSASA Aristotle C Rymbai said the education minister has clarified that the Centre has released fund to the tune of Rs 132 crore and “the state government assured us that our pending five months’ salary (April-August 2018) will be released next week”.
He also urged all SSA teachers to go to their school and fulfil their duties.
Rymbai also repeated the state government’s assurance that monthly salary will remain the same for lower primary teachers, which is Rs 19,044, and for upper primary at Rs 20,493.
The MSSASA has also condemned the statement made by Defender Lamare, general secretary of the All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association earlier this month accusing Rymbai of being an agent of the present Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.
In this connection, Rymbai informed that in a CEC meeting held on September 13, the association decided to demand a clarification from Lamare.
