SHILLONG: Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told the state Assembly that though residential schools were conceptualised in 2012, the academic blocks were yet to be completed.

Stating that the whole concept of residential school is to give quality education, the Minister informed that Rs 55, 91, 90, 200 has been sanctioned for the project but only Rs 27 crore was  released by the government.

Replying to a supplementary query by Ranikor UDP MLA Pius Marwein, as to how long will it require for the residential school at Ranikor to be operational, Rymbui said huge financial implication was involved for completing the project.

As per the statement placed by the Education Minister, there are 20 residential schools in the state- five in Jaintia Hills, six each in Garo Hills and Khasi Hills and three in Ri-Bhoi.
