TURA: The CCL Company, which has been charged with construction of the Tura-Dalu stretch of road on NH-51 has come under the scanner after a suppliers’ body from Garo Hills alleged that it has been collecting sub-standard materials for the construction.

The All Garo Hills Construction Material Suppliers’ and Workers’ Association (AGHCMSWA) recently inspected the site at Adugre where construction materials are being stocked and found that the materials collected like stone chips was of very poor quality.

According to the association, it tried several times to meet the official in charge of the site to complain against the use of sub standard materials but failed to do so as no one was available. The association alleged that the company was interested in monetary gains only, which is why sub standard materials have been collected and termed it as an insult to the people of Garo Hills and Meghalaya as a whole.

“This stretch of road which is of 50 kilometres has been posing problems for commuters since decades. Now after almost two decades, fund for its re-construction has been released and the same should be done by using good quality materials and not sub standard ones so that it becomes a durable road fit to be called a highway,” the association said.

Meanwhile, the matter has been brought to the notice of PWD Minister, Prestone Tynsong and the association has urged him to intervene and ensure that the people get the best of what the government is spending.
