JOHOR BAHRU: Indian junior men’s hockey team continued their winning momentum beating New Zealand in a one sided match 7-1 in the ongoing 8th Sultan of Johor Cup here on Sunday.
India earlier on Saturday started their opening campaign beating hosts Malaysia 2-1. India have earned 6 points and are at top of the table chart. Japan too has 6 points after winning two matches, but due to better goal average India is at top while Japan stands second. India next play Japan on Tuesday. India were dominant in the match against New Zealand and till half time were leading 4-0.
With India’s winning momentum Shilanand Lakra also scored two goals. India with the help of Prabjot Singh gained lead in the sixth minute of the game through field goal. with Shilanand’s goal in 15th minute kept lead 2-0 and Harmanjit Singh in 21st minute took the lead to 3-0.
For New Zealand lone goal was scored by Sam in 53rd minute. (UNI)
