SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has claimed that it has detected over 139 non-tribal drivers who do not possess labour licence issued by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
In a letter to KHADC chief HS Shylla, president of youth wing Thomas Passah criticised the Labour Department of the council for failing to check the rampant issuing of licences.
He informed that non-tribal drivers were detected at Polo, Khyndailad, Mawprem, Laban and other places.
Passah said the KHADC should issue a notification to disallow non-tribals to operate as drivers and punish those who violate the Trading by Non-tribal Regulation, 1954.
