SHILLONG: The main parking lots in the city lack basic facilities like cleanliness, CCTV camera and others.
Parking lots at Anjalee, Iew Mawlong and even at the MUDA complex in Police Bazar are neither kept clean nor do they have basic security in place in the form of CCTVs.
The parking lots are owned by the Shillong Municipal Board and MUDA and have been leased to private players through auction.
However, an official of the Shillong Municipal Board denied lack of basic facilities at parking lots and said cleanliness has improved in the Anjalee and Iew Mawlong parking lots even as he informed that a sewage management unit has been installed at the Anjalee parking lot.
On the installation of CCTV cameras, the official said it does not come under the contract agreement with the lessee who is handed over the parking lots, adding “The Shillong Municipal Board has given a proposal to the state government to set up signboards in the parking lot about the rates charged for vehicle parking.”
The official also informed that the Board intends to levy parking charge depending on the size of the vehicle.
Citing an example, the official said an SUV is double the size of a Maruti car and hence those will be charged extra.
