SHILLONG: The state government is hoping to start the Rs 48-crore Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Mawiong by March next year but has not ruled out delay in completing the project.

Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Saturday the target date may be “slightly changed depending on the flow of funds from the Centre”.

The North Eastern Council (NEC) is financing the project that has missed several deadlines. It was supposed to be completed by December this year.

Dhar said more work has been done at the ISBT than the fund sanctioned so far.

The project is aimed at decongesting the overcrowded parking lots in Shillong. The new terminus will accommodate 150-200 buses. Reacting to a query about the ISBT in Tura that was not inaugurated even after completion, Dhar said there was a meeting with the chief minister on the matter and the project will be made functional soon.

The Centre sanctioned Rs 45 crore for the Tura project that covered 90 per cent of the cost.  the chief minister on the matter and the project will be made functional soon.
