SHILLONG: The state government is trying to utilise existing land to develop infrastructure for the National Games 2022 so that it does not have to incur additional expenditure.
Talking to media persons here after the meeting of the High Powered Committee on National Games, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the meeting was to discuss on how to take the proposal for Games Village and stadium forward.
“We are trying to see that there is not much financial burden on the state and we are trying to find ways for which we don’t have to spent additional money for buying land due to financial constraints,” he said and added that government will use its land in and around Shillong.
Soon after the meeting, Sangma and Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh left for New Delhi.
Sources said they would approach different ministries to get funds.
The Ministry of Social Justice has already sanctioned Rs 300 crore for the construction of the National Games stadium in Shillong.
Health Minister AL Hek, who is in the national capital, met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday to discuss about Games infrastructure, among other things.
In a statement, Hek said the Union minister asked the state Sports Department to send proposals and “has assured all support to ensure that utmost priority is accorded to build the best infrastructure”.
