Green skill development programme held at NEHU

SHILLONG: The Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) on ‘Environmental Laws’ which commenced on October 8 at the NEHU campus was formally inaugurated on Saturday.
The programme is being organised by the ENVIS Resources Partner (RP) Centre, NEHU Shillong in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India and a total of 14 participants from across the country are attending the 45 days course which would commence on November 30.
The welcome address during the inaugural programme was delivered by Dinesh Bhatia, Coordinator, ENVIS RP Centre, NEHU, Shillong wherein he explained the role and contribution of ENVIS Centre(s) to create awareness among the general public and develop green skills among the youth of the country.
He further elaborated on different activities being conducted by the centre and engagement of the participants post completion of the course.
District and Sessions Judge, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, Noor Ain Khan explained and stressed on the importance of sensitization of the youth on issues related to the environment with impacts and assessments of present activities for the betterment of our future generation.
Anjeline M Pariat, Secretary, District Legal Services, Authority, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, shared her experiences on various environmental laws and their applications to the participants.
Dibyendu Paul, Co-Coordinator of ENVIS RP Centre, NEHU, Shillong addressed the gathering by asking the participants to be passionate about their field of work and to treat this course as an opportunity to lead the youth in their respective communities by making them aware about their responsibility to take care of the environmental issues.
The inaugural ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Naveen Kumar, Law Department, NEHU, Shillong.
