Biannual Khasi Youth fest held

SHILLONG: The annual gathering of Khasi youth oratories was held at Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC) in Mawlai on Sunday. As many as 900 youths from 21 centres took part in the event.
A day long programme with the theme ‘Walk with the Lord in Holiness’ commenced with registration followed by Holy Mass, animation and culture programme.
Embhahlang Syiemlieh, former MLA, Mawlai Constituency, who attended the programme as chief guest said, “Programmes like these help the youth to exhibit their talents”,adding that youths are the instruments of peace in the society. Fr Leeborki Dhar animated the morning session where he spoke about the need to overcome fear of living a holy life and to live the life of youth to its fullness.
“His speech encouraged and inspired me to live a holy life,” said Gracelyne W Kharmut, a participant from Pynthor. Another participant from Langkyrding, Emidahun Kharmut said, “I was amazed by the number of people that came to participate in the programme,” adding, “The programme inspired me to live my life meaningfully as a Christian.”
Extravaganza filled the afternoon session where the youth showcased their talents in the form of lively traditional Khasi songs, skit, dances and music. The programme ended with a jam session organised by the brothers of SHTC.
Fr Paul O Lyngkot SDB, the Salesian Provincial of Shillong, Fr Anthony Kharkonghor, delegate of the youth ministry of Salesian Province of Shillong and other dignitaries were also present.
The fest is a biannual youth gathering organised by the Brothers of Sacred Heart Theological college for the youngsters of the Shillong Archdiocese.
