SHILLONG: The sixth edition of Youth Leaders Connect (YLC), an initiative to provide a common platform to young achievers from the North East, will be held at the North Eastern Council in the city on Saturday and Sunday.
The two-day event will focus on creating an ecosystem to connect entrepreneurs and investors.
Speaking to media persons, Director Youth Connect Lezo Putsure said the programme will have sessions on topics like entrepreneurs of North East, the game changers, creating ecosystem for entrepreneurs to thrive and a policy perspective, among others.
The director further informed that Minister of State (Home) Kiren Rijiju, who is the chief patron of YLC, will take part in a round table discussion on ‘Made in North East’ and way forward. The idea behind the event is to market the products from the region to other parts of the state.
“The people of the North East are very talented and creative. However, we have not been able to market their products to other parts of the country and abroad,” he said. Putsure informed that the conference will focus on how to realise the ‘Make in North East’ theme with a solution to market the products made in the region to other parts of the country. On the first day of the conference Indian footballer and former captain of the Indian National team Bhaichung Bhutia (Chair, Young Leaders Connect) will make the opening remarks and on the second day the round table discussion will be chaired by Rijiju.
A football exhibition match will also be held on the last day of the conference at JN Stadium, Polo Ground between the Chief Minister XI against the Young Leaders Connect (YLC) XI.
The objective of YLC is to come up with key actionable steps required to inform and sensitise the population from the rest of India regarding the North East and create a positive outlook about the region that looks beyond media reports of conflict to the untapped potential that the region holds in terms of cultural heritage, natural resources and human capital.
