Lok Adalat settles 164 cases

SHILLONG: A Mega Lok Adalat was held in the state on Saturday where 164 cases were settled for a total amount of over Rs 64 lakh. The Adalat was held under the leadership of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya along with Justice S.R.Sen, Executive Chairman of Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA).
The most significant feature of the Adalat was the settlement of a case under the Motor Vehicle Act for which the claimants, in a case of the death of their son in a vehicular accident, was awarded 6 lakh.
The cheque for the same was handed over by the officials of the New India Assurance Co. Ltd to the father and mother/claimants of the deceased on the very day of the Mega Lok Adalat.
