Conrad concerned over bad indicators in health sector

SHILLONG: With health forming a major thrust area in the Central government set up, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed concern over the bad indicators in the health sector of the state.

Speaking at the 3rd North East Healthcare Leadership Summit held at Yojana Bhavan on Monday, he said, “As a government, we felt the need to increase the budget for health. This year we have increased the budget amount by almost 30 per cent.”

Commenting on the attitude of doctors and nurses who are accused of not being cordial to patients, he said trained doctors and nurses were expected to be more friendly toward patients.

He added that the state was in need of more CHCs, Sub-centers, PHCs as manpower and infrastructure development is also a problem.

Meanwhile, MP, Secretary, North East MPs Forum, PD Rai said the duty of state governments is to formulate policies in accordance with guidelines given by center which forms part of cooperative federalism.
