NONGPOH: The Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong (RVOCS) in its continued service to the Society has crossed another milestone with the completion of Wash in School (WinS) Project by setting up 16 wash stations at Auxillium Umpohliew Jingstad Secondary School, Mawtnum, Ri Bhoi District.
Being the first of its kind project in the district, the WinS Project here was jointly contributed by the school and the Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong.
Local legislator of Umsning, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong inaugurated the project in a function held at the school premise on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Mawlong lauded the Rotary Club and the Auxillium Umpohliew Jingstad Secondary School for their initiative to implement this project to achieve total sanitation in every school.
Mawlong informed that he had visited various educational institutions and found out that most of them are concerned with the requirement of school building, road, and other school amenities but only a few of them are concerned with the cleanliness.
He, therefore, urged the teachers, parents and general public to have a holistic approach and collective responsibilities of all stakeholders to have a clean, hygienic atmosphere not just in schools but in the society as well.
Meanwhile, the president of Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong, Dr. Judita Syiemlieh informed that the Club focuses on various issues including literacy mission, acknowledging teachers for their great services, teacher training and others.
