SHILLONG: Former Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), P N Syiem has extended support to the Executive Committee (EC) of the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) led by NPP MDC, HS Shylla.

Addressing the press on Monday, current KHADC CEM HS Shylla said, “All the five MDCs have already extended support to the EC of KHDA. Now that he has extended support to us, it will be for the betterment of the Council.”

According to him, unity among local leaders such as former KHADC CEM Ardent Basaiawmoit and others is crucial to address the common cause of the challenges faced by the indigenous community.

It may be mentioned Syiem is the chairman of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) who skipped the special sessions of the KHADC recently as he was the lone opposition member with PDF MDCs extending support to Shylla-led EC.

The five PDF MDCs who gave their support to Shylla’s EC prior to the special session were Banteidor Lyngdoh, Hadrian Lyngdoh, Albinus Lyngdoh, James Ban Basaiawmoit, Morningstar Mawsor.
