Throwing of garbage on pavements continues in Williamnagar

TURA: Littering continues to plague the small town of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills even as instructions for keeping the town clean as per the provisions of the Municipal Rules 1973 was issued by the Williamnagar Municiapal Board (WMB) recently.

According to an official notification issued in this regard, dumping and throwing of waste materials and garbage, etc., on the foot-paths of the main road and common areas of the town, rivers and streams thereby causing pollution has resumed despite a prohibitory order promulgated in February, 2016.

Taking strong cognizance of the matter, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the WMB on Tuesday warned of stern action against any persons found violating the instructions and littering the town’s localities.

The notification also asked presidents and secretaries of the Market Merchants Association of Williamnagar town to instruct its members not to throw or litter waste materials, garbage, dirt, etc. on the foot-paths, common areas of the town and into the streams and rivers and to urged them to keep waste-bins in front of every shop.
