NONGSTOIN: The Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, on Tuesday assured the people of Rambrai Jyrngam, West Khasi Hills of infrastructure and development activities.
The deputy chief minister was visiting the constituency along with State Law Commission chairman Macmillan Byrsat and Chairman of the State Housing Board Gigur Myrthong.
They were welcomed by NPP Rambrai Jyrngam unit at United National Secondary School Rambrai.
Addressing the gathering, Tynsong said under the leadership of World Champion Paliar, who is set to contest KHADC poll on NPP ticket, he hoped that Rambrai will soon see a ray of hope in terms of development.
“This is my first visit to the constituency and on the way from Nongstoin to Rambrai, I have experienced difficulties due to the road conditions” he said, adding that in order to bring change in the state as a whole, the government has to start from the grassroots and road connectivity will be the first priority.
“Road is the backbone of economy in our state unlike other states where train and planes are available,” the deputy chief minister said.
He also assured to improve several roads in Rambrai area and will follow up the memorandum submitted by the Church leaders, NPP Rambrai and others.
“Nongstoin-Rambrai- Kyrshai National Highway road work is now under progress and by next year the construction will start if there are no disturbances,” Tynsong added.
Talking about tourism, the deputy chief minister said that it is one of the important sources of income in the state while asserting that many tourists will visit the place once there is good road.
He also assured that a C&RD Block will be set up soon in Rambrai.
The minister further added that an NPP representative should have followed up all these issues but the people of Rambrai elected a legislator who is in the opposition.
Nongstoin MLA Byrsat said NPP is a tribal centric party looking after the elfare of the tribal people.
”Now we have chosen World Champion Paliar who was a lawyer as your KHADC candidate and we trust that the people of Rambrai will bring in a change,” the legislator said.
He added that Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage (Amendment) Act 2017 has been de-notified and the Christian Marriage Act has been approved by the NPP led coalition government. ”We have also advised the KHADC to codify the land tenure system and traditional system of the Khasi people”, he said.
Paliar, president of NPP Rambrai Jyrngam said the objective of organising this programme is to make the government aware of the lack of development at Rambrai Jyrngam constituency.
He also submitted a memorandum to the deputy CM urging him to set up a C&RD Block at Rambrai, construction of road from Rambrai to Langpih area, speedup construction of Nongstoin- Rambrai road, upgrade Rambrai- Mawlangsu road, set up Police Out Post, upgrade PHC to CHC and others.
