Sitharaman visits India-China border

GUWAHATI: Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman undertook a tour of the forward areas in Dau- Delai and Lohit Valleys on Wednesday. She first overflew the forward most post of Rochcham near India–China border and thereafter visited Hayuliang.
At the forward post, the Defence Minister celebrated Diwali, distributed sweets among the troops and wished them prosperity and happiness. She appreciated the zeal, enthusiasm and dedication of the troops who are stationed in these high mountainous areas and ensuring the sanctity of Indian borders.
At Hayuliang, Sitharaman also interacted and distributed sweets to civilians and GREF personnel. The Defence Minister was accompanied by Lt General M M Naravane and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command and Lieutenant General Gopal R, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps.
Troops celebrate
A Ceremonial Border Personal Meeting (BPM), last of 2018 to Commemorate joint celebrations of the Indian Festival of ‘Diwali’ was organised by Indian Army at Bum La in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.
The delegations, led by Colonel Prasenjit Kar from Indian side and Colonel Yang Zi Ming from Chinese side, interacted and exchanged greetings in a cordial atmosphere, a signature of improving military to military ties at ground level, according an official release. The meeting began with hoisting of national flags and included lighting of traditional diyas and the ceremonial address.
Both sides highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility along border areas.
