SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) said the party has decided to field candidates in all the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills.
PDF president Ivanbanlumlang Marbaniang said the meeting of the central election committee was held on Friday in which the party has called for applications from Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
The party will contest the 29 seats in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and will examine the applicants even after the recommendation of the zonal committee.
“The aspirants will have to get recommendation from zonal committees of the PDF. In those constituencies where the zonal committee is absent, applications will be given but the central election committee will be examining it as well as other applicants,” he said.
The party also decided to field candidates in Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and forms will be given next week.
Marbaniang informed that there are aspirants who approached the party and who want to join the PDF for contesting the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
“The election for the GHADC will not be held at the same time with KHADC and JHADC but as a state party we have decided to field candidates in all the councils,” he added.
Regarding the Lok Sabha election, Marbaniang said there are aspirants who approached the PDF. “We will have to discuss the matter thoroughly. As a new party, we have to think over it very properly.”
