SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister, in- charge PWD, Prestone Tynsong has promised to revive Rongai Valley project in Chibinang which has remained a non-starter for over a decade.
Tynsong along with senior officials of the department made a thorough survey of the project on Saturday.
He said the scheme is going to emerge as a multipurpose project since it is one of the biggest projects in the plain areas of West Garo Hills.
The deputy chief minister also addressed a large gathering there and lauded the local MLA for pursuing the key project.
SGE Mominin is the second MLA from the constituency after the late MI Sarker to take up the issue of the project, Tynsong said.
The Rongai Valley Medium irrigation project in Chibinang has remained embroiled in controversy for over a decade.
The project was sanctioned in 1990 by the Planning Commission, New Delhi at a cost of Rs 16.30 lakh.
While the barrage of the project was completed, the project landed into several controversies over the payment of contractors and issues of payment for the land acquisition.
