Jowai youth kills self
JOWAI: A 20-year-old youth killed himself in West Jaintia Hills. The deceased is identified as Shngainki Passah of Panaliar Jowai. The body was exempted from PM examination as requested by the family members.
One-yr-old among 2 injured
SHILLONG: In a case of hit-and-run case, a tourist cab was hit by a local taxi at Mawlai Mawiong near MLP around 8:57 pm on November 12. As a result, a one-year-old boy identified as Samuel Kurbah and a pregnant woman namely Trabilin Mawlong (32) sustained injuries. Both the victims were later shifted to Ganesh Das Hospital by 108 Shillong base ambulance.
BSF man brought dead
SHILLONG: On November 10, one ASI (GD) of FTR, HQ, BSF, Umpling, Vinod Singh Negi (50) was shifted to NEIGRIHMS for medical treatment. However, the attending medical officer declared him brought dead.
Bike rider killed
SHILLONG: On November 9 at about 10.45 pm, one unknown vehicle dashed against one motorcycle (ML-05E-3045) near ALG, Upper Shillong. As a result, one motorcycle rider Breakson Kharkongor died at the spot, while his elder brother sustained injuries.
Khasi Bible App released
SHILLONG: Archbishop Dominic Jala on Tuesday released the Khasi Bible App version 2 in the presence of Fr. Juan Pablo from Rome, Fr. Raphael Maiong, Fr. Roland Kharkrang and the students of Don Bosco Youth Centre at Don Bosco Media Network studio, Youth Centre in the city. Fr. Michael, the Director and the publisher of the app, welcomed the gathering. Speaking at the programme, the Archbishop congratulated Fr. Michael Makri and the team who took the step to make the app better than the previous version. Fr. Training on disaster management held in city
SHILLONG: The NSS and Disaster Management Committee of Shillong Commerce College organised training on Disaster Management on Tuesday. Inspector W. Nonglang, Senior Instructor from the Department of Civil defence and Home Guard along with his teammate conducted the demonstration on first aid and transportation and how to perform CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation). Students were trained on how they should bandage a person who suffer different injuries. Nonglang and his team also demonstrated on how to transport an injured person and how to pull the injured from the collapsed building with the help of rope tide to the waist of another person. In addition he has presented a series of videos concerning the emergency treatment of various casualties’ causes by natural disaster.
Legal service day observed in West Jaintia Hills
JOWAI: The West Jaintia District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) recently observed the Legal Service Day at Sahsniang village community Hall. The District Session Judge cum Chairman of DLSA, Jowai, E. Kharumnuid was also present along with Secretary D. S Marbaniang. Others who attended the programme were the panel lawyers and para legal volunteers, headmen of both Sahsniang A and B. Speaking at the programme, Marbaniang reminded the gathering that it is a day to reassure all citizens that opportunity or securing justice cannot be denied in the guise of economic or other disabilities. He also spoke about the importance of being able to understand one’s right and to be able to work towards it. Kharumnuid stressed on the need to spread the message of free legal aid and the duty of every right minded citizens to look out for the needy and the downtrodden.

SPARK to celebrate Children’s Day with a difference
SHILLONG: On the occasion of Children’s Day on November 14, SPARK is organising a special programme for the underprivileged and deprived children thereby providing them a platform to express. The programme will be held at 11 am at Lady Hydari Park. Shima Modak, Founder & President, SPARK said this is a special initiative where the organisation brought together different categories of children such as school going children, rag pickers, child labourers, street children, working children, domestic workers, cow boys, children working in paddy fields and slum children from villages like Mawlong, Rangmen, Mawlynrei and others to celebrate the day together without any difference. Besides the 200 underprivileged children, a few guests will be joining SPARK and Miss Tourism may attend the programme.
