Police make 4th arrest

JOWAI/SHILLONG: East Jaintia Hills police arrested one more person identified as Charming Siangshai of Wapungskur on Sunday for interrogation in connection with the assault of activists Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma on November 8.
When contacted, the East Jaintia Hills SP, S. Nongtnger said all the arrested persons are still being interrogated.
“Once we get solid clues, we will inform the public about the development in the case,” he said.
Commenting on the mining activities, UDP president Donkupar Roy said God has given minerals for the welfare of the people but while exploiting natural resources, there should not be any damage to the environment.
“Mining helps in improving the economy and income of the people but this should not be at the cost of the environment,” Roy said.
He pointed out that when mining was carried out in Sohra, there was no damage to the environment and people in Jaintia Hills should not destroy environment while carrying out mining.
