Deficit teachers set to get first arrear tranche

SHILLONG: The state government will soon release the first installment of arrears of the revised pay for deficit teachers before Christmas.
Babukular Khongjirem, the president of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association, said the assurance to release the arrears before Christmas was made by the Principal Secretary of the Education Department during their meeting here on Wednesday.
According to Khongjirem, the government is also willing to release the second instalment provided the district school education officers submit the details within a week.
DA hiked
The Finance department has hiked the Dearness Allowance payable to all categories of state government employees, pensioners and family pension holders from the existing rate of 3% to 5% with effect from July 1 this year.
A notification in this regard on Wednesday said this will also apply to members of work- charged establishments and casual workers other than Bungalow peons holding posts in the pay level admissible to the employees of corresponding categories under the regular reestablishment, services and posts.
