Measles Rubella meet held in Nongpoh

Nongpoh: The office of the District Medical & Health Officer, Ri Bhoi informed that the Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign has achieved 83 percent coverage since its’ launch in October.
During a meeting held at the DRDA Hall in Nongpoh on Wednesday, the office informed that 97,475 out of 1,16,815 children in the district have been vaccinated.
The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman, District Health Society, Ri Bhoi RM Kurbah in the presence of Minister of GAD, PWD Comingone Ymbon, local MLA Mayral Born Syiem, Mawhati MLA D Lamare, Jirang MLA S Sohtun, Umsning MLA Jason Sawkmie Mawlong and others including officials of various departments and health officers.
The objective of the meeting was to gain the support of religious heads in dealing with the superstitious behavior of the community which has been one of the main factors preventing the vaccination campaign from achieving cent per cent success rate.
Ymbon said awareness should be created among the rural people with the help of local MLAs, headmen and religious leaders.
