SHILLONG: The by-election to  Selsella Asembly seat, which fell vacant after the death of Clement Marak, has to be held before March next year  and many of the political parties in the state have already started ground work for the polls though unofficially

June Eliana R Marak, wife of the late MLA, Clement Marak while speaking to The Shillong Times said that she is undecided if she would contest the  Selsella bypolls or not

She also said that the Congress party had not approach her as of now to contest the polls. She, however, added that she was going to the people to thank them as they voted for her husband for three terms

“ I am just going to meet people and thank them as this was what my husband wanted,” she added

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to be quite keen to contest the bypoll and recently BJP MLA AL Hek had maintained that the BJP being a national party should contest the bypoll

On the other hand, NPP  too is contemplating to field  its candidate in Selsella bypoll and a top rank NPP leader while speaking to journalists sounded optimistic that the party would be able to get through in Selsella

It may be mentioned that the commissioner and secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has already notified the vacancy and the Election Department has forwarded the letter to the Election Commission mentioning that  the by-election to Selsella seat, which fell vacant after the death of Clement Marak, has to be held  before March next year.
