SHILLONG: A young advocate from Umkiang village, Kynjaimon Amse has expressed hope that remote villages of East Jaintia Hills bordering Bangladesh will soon get road connectivity following the intervention of the Meghalaya High Court.
In a statement issued here, he and his team said the demand to get road connectivity began in 2014 and expressed optimism that the fight to ensure better livelihood for the poor in border areas will see light of the day when the road is finally laid down.
The High Court has heard the matter on November 28 where the HC has expressed displeasure over the deplorable condition of the road which has affected the lives of the people to a large extend.
The matter was again listed the next day and the HC specifically asked for the personal presence of the Secretary PWD(R) and the Chief Engineer (NH), PWD(R). Appearing in person before the Division Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on November 29, Amse highlighted the problems faced by the people living in the border and rural villages.
Upon hearing all the parties concern, the High Court of Meghalaya directed the constitution of a High Level Committee headed by the Chief Secretary to the Sate to ensure road connectivity in the villages including Hingaria, Huroi, Lahalein and Lejri within a short period of time.
During the hearing, the state also made a commitment to prepare the DPR for construction of Sonapur-Borkhar Road within one week and thereafter submit it to the concern authority for approval.
The matter is again listed on December 17.
