SHILLONG: The Khasi Authors’ Society (KAS) has submitted a memorandum to BJP’s Ram Madhav on inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule.
The literati group, led by its president KL Nonglait, met the central BJP leader and Ajay Jamwal, BJP in charge of the North East, on Friday to submit the memorandum addressed to Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh.
The delegation apprised the senior party functionaries of the recent resolution on the two local languages approved by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on November 27.
Assuring that the matter would be taken into consideration, Madhav advised the delegation to be present in New Delhi between December 17 and 20 so that they can brief Singh on the people’s long-term demand for inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule.
Madhav also told the KAS members that all measures to try to include these two languages in the Eighth Schedule “will be made at the earliest”.
