MPUF aid to Khliehriat villagers
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya People’s United Front-East Jaintia District, under the leadership of Michal Chyrmang along with president of Khliehriat circle, Kyrshan Blah donated two sacks of rice and cash to the villagers of Lumsken falling under East Jaintia Hills. The organisation also handed out financial help to Teilis Lamo for medical expenses of her husband, Handling Lyndoh who is suffering from cancer.
SSA teachers urges clearance of pending dues before Christmas
TURA: With Christmas festivities just round the corner, teachers under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) have resumed their demand for release of their pending salaries and arrears. In their memorandum to Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, the teachers demanded the release of their pending salaries from the month of September to November including December 2018 with immediate effect. Besides pending salaries, the teachers are yet to receive their pending arrears for the years 2016-17 as per PAB. Reminding that repeated petitions have already been submitted to concerned authorities, the teachers sought that both their pending salaries and arrears are released before December 13 this year.

UDP youth wing formed in Mawkyrwat
Mawkyrwat: The United Democratic Party (UDP) Mawkyrwat Circle recently constituted its youth wing with Wanjoplin K. Syiemlieh being named as president, Tylliborlang Lyngdoh as general secretary, John M. Thongni as vice-president, Lawansuk Iawphniaw as assistant secretary, Bapynshngain Nongsiej as organising secretary, Everwellshine Lyngkhoi as treasurer and Ailand Nongrum as public secretary, besides 15 executive members. The youth wing was formed at a meeting attended by Hapbok Lyngkhoi, general secretary of the UDP South West Khasi Hills District Unit and Anvil Lyngdoh, president of the UDP Mawkyrwat Circle and the party candidate for the upcoming district council elections. Lyngdoh informed that members of the youth wing will visit different areas and form units at the village level to strengthen the party in the constituency ahead of the 2019 elections. The party reorganisation comes after several members of the UDP Mawkyrwat Circle and other primary units led by its working president Jeslanroy Nongsiej and general secretary Synshar Lyngkhoi joined the HSPDP last month.

Twitter handle launched
SHILLONG: With an objective to spread awareness about cyber crimes, Ministry of Home Affairs has launched @CyberDost twitter handle where pertinent posts about cyber crimes and precautions that need to be taken to remain safe in cyber world to follow this twitter handle regularly as it can beneficial to remain safe in cyber world. It is also informed that if any contents of child pornography and rape/gangrape are found to be circulated through internet, the same may be reported to an Online Reporting Portal www.cybercrime.gov.in which has been launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The same can also be informed to the nearest Police Station or Cyber Assistance Cell (CID), Meghalaya, Shillong at the following numbers: Telephone Helpline No – 0364-2504001; Mobile Number – 9402519391 and email id : [email protected].

Winter Fall NE Fashion Show to be held in city
SHILLONG: A fashion show entitled Winter Fall (N.E.) Fashion Show 2018 will be held at Hotel Assembly in the city on Saturday. The event will be organised by Lakshmi Kharkongor (Public Relations/Event Head) in association with SEED NGO (Society for Empowerment Education and Development), Shillong. Winter Fall (N.E) Fashion Show will be attended by international designer Daniel Syiem.  Vikash Gupta, Ward Commissioner of Shillong Cantonment Board, will be the guest of honour. The main purpose of organising this event is to provide a platform to the youths in the fashion industry.

Women in Agriculture Day observed in Tura
TURA: Women in Agriculture Day was observed on Tuesday by the College of Community Science (Home Science), Central Agricultural University at its college premises at Sangsanggre near Tura. Speaking during the programme, CAU Chancellor, Dr S Ayyappan, a former Director General of ICAR and Secretary, DARE, Government of India who was among those who presided over the programme stressed on the need to encourage agripreneurship  (entrepreneurship in  agriculture),  start-ups, and proper linkages to market the processed food and other products to other states of India and even abroad. “The North-East has been blessed with salubrious climate and abundant horticultural crops. Women should be encouraged to venture into business avenues in order to uplift the economy of the region,” Dr Ayyappan remarked.
