Child support centres inaugurated in state

SHILLONG: Supreme Court judge Madan B Lokur on Thursday inaugurated the legal care and support centres attached to the Child Welfare Committee (CWCs) in all eleven districts of Meghalaya via video conferencing from the office of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in Delhi.
Lokur, who is also the chairman of NALSA, commended the setting up of the centres by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) and lauded the achievements of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya as well as that of the Executive Chairman of MSLSA and the Government in espousing the cause of children
Stating that children must have confidence and should be looked after properly as far as their rights are concerned, Lokur said that the centres should act as one-stop centres for children to get all round help.
Lokur also released the first newsletter of the High Court of Meghalaya, Juvenile Justice Committee which will highlight the steps taken by the government and the committee regarding children’s rights.
