SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will meet the management of Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL) and a team of his officers on Friday to address the grievances of the staff.
Informing this, the president of Mawmluh Cherra Cement Employees’ Union, S Diengdoh, said the chief minister will convey to them about the discussion after 2-3 days.
The workers of the cement factory held a demonstration at the Additional Secretariat parking lot and later met the chief minister.
When asked, union general secretary P Lyngdoh said more than Rs 8 crore is needed to pay salaries and over time allowance. The pending dues are since 2013.
“The current salary is very irregular while the dues are from August 2015-March 2016. We haven’t received the OTA since 2013,” Lyngdoh said.
Diengdoh said production of cement from MCCL is very low and the plant is not functioning well. “We want the government and the management to see that the plant should function well,” he added.
