Curbs on coal transportation in WKH
Nongstoin: The District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District, has imposed an order under section 144 CrPc prohibiting transportation of coal without proper documentation such as royalty challan, transport challan, MEPRF challan issued by the Director of Mineral Resources/ Commissioner of Transport etc and other documents as required under law, and transporting coal beyond the permissible limit as stipulated by the Supreme Court and the NGT. Anyone found violating the order shall be prosecuted under relevant laws. This order shall come into force with immediate effect and until further orders.
Arrears for deficit school teachers released
SHILLONG: The state government through the Director of Schools Education and Literacy (DSEL) on December 17 released the first instalment — 25 per cent — of arrears of the revised pay including salary for the month of December 2018. In a statement issued here, the president of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA), Babu Kular, said the order was issued after repeated requests by both the associations — KJDSTA and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers & Employees Association (GHDSTEA) — from time to time to the DSEL and also from the Principal Secretary, Education. The teachers’ association has expressed gratitude to the Director of Schools Education and Literacy, Amrose C.H. Marak, MCS and the Principal Secretary, Education, D.P. Wahlang, who ensured the release of the first installment of arrears of revised pay before Christmas in spite of financial constraints and challenges faced by the Education Department.
Shillong audition for M’laya Idol on Dec 29
SHILLONG: Meghalaya Idol Season 1 that started in February 2018 has 47 participants selected from auditions held in different parts of the state so far. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, president of Meghalaya United and Social Organization, Aiborlang Jyrwa, said the Nongstoin audition will be held on December 21 followed by audition in Mairang on December 22, Mawsyram on December 27, Tura on December 28 and Shillong on December 29. The organisation has invited those who have missed the previous auditions to participate on December 29 in Shillong at Anni’s Fitness Club, PDE Buliding near Yalana Hotel, Laitumkhrah. Stating that participants will have to go through four rounds before entering the grand finale, he said that the voting system will be 40 per cent from the people and 60 per cent from the judges. Jyrwa said the winner will get Rs 1.50 lakh, while Rs 70, 000 and Rs 50, 000 will be given for second and third prizes respectively besides 5 special consolation prizes. He added there is no age bar and the competition is open to all.
Coal-laden trucks asked to follow weight limit
SHILLONG: The Commissioner of Transport has issued a notice saying in compliance to the orders of the Apex Court and with regard to permission for transportation of extracted coal within and outside the State, all coal-laden trucks should pass through designated weighbridges as identified and notified by the government. It also said the trucks restrict carriage of permissible load. In case of overloading and causing traffic congestion, the owner of the concerned vehicle will be liable to penalty as per law.
3-day farmers’ training begins in Ri Bhoi
SHILLONG: A three-day farmers training programme was inaugurated on Thursday by MLA Mayralborn Syiem. The programme was jointly organised by KVK-Ri Bhoi and ATMA, Ri Bhoi, Nongpoh with the theme of “Doubling Farmers Income” from 20-22 December 2018 under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan Phase-II (Agriculture Welfare Campaign) at ICAR- KVK Ri Bhoi. ICAR Umiam Director Dr Narendra Prakash congratulated the KVK on the successful completion of Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan Phase-I with 3rd Rank which enabled the KVK to be a part of Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan Phase-II. He also urged the KVK as well as the farmers to work in tandem for upliftment of the farming community of the district.
Tura banks asked to assist agri sector
TURA: The District Consultative Committee (DCC) meeting was held at the DRDA Conference Hall in Tura on Thursday in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director, DRDA, Tura AM Sangma and bank officials of all banks operating in West Garo Hills. West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman Ram Singh chaired the meeting and suggested the Bank officials to prioritize opening of bank accounts including expand their branches in different blocks to facilitate and provide better service to the people of the area. Singh also urged the bank officials to focus on the agricultural sector as well.
