SHILLONG: The interim relief for the  15  ‘trapped’ coal miners in East Jaintia Hills is ready for disbursement.

Rajabla MLA, Dr Azad Zaman said that as per the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, the cheques were ready and the relatives of the coal miners had been asked  to come to East Jaintia Hills to collect the relief cheques.

“We have requested the  DC to transfer the relief from there to West Garo Hills as  East Jaintia Hills is very far from West Garo Hills and it will be problematic for  the people,” he said.

It may be mentioned that seven out of the  15 coal miners who were trapped in the coal mine hail from West Garo Hills

Earlier, the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission  had asked Meghalaya Government to consider giving interim relief to the relatives of the miners who are trapped in the coal mine.
