SHILLONG: PDF leader and Urban Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling on Sunday joined the bandwagon of opposing the Joint Parliamentary Committee that recently approved the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016.
Dohling said the Meghalaya cabinet last year had vehemently opposed the bill. Stating that the government, people and stakeholders in Meghalaya are against the bill, the minister added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government at the Centre should respect the sentiments of the people of the region. “We don’t want to be minority in our own land as this bill will adversely affect the indigenous tribe of the state and the region,” he said.
On the other hand, BJP legislator AL Hek too reiterated that the Cabinet had jointly opposed the Bill and he is a part of the Cabinet.
