SHILLONG: As the BJP-led NDA government at the centre is hell-bent on enacting  the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the BJP MLA and Cabinet Minister, A L Hek has asserted that he was with the state and its people  on the issue.

Talking to media persons on Tuesday, AL Hek said that  the State Government had sent a very clear message to the NDA that it was against the Bill and his stand was clear on the Bill even as he added that the Meghalaya Cabinet had passed a resolution to oppose the Bill and he was a part and parcel of that particular cabinet meeting

When asked if he would resign from the party, he said, “ Why should I resign.”

On being asked about the demands of the NGOs to drop him from the cabinet since he is a BJP MLA, Hek said that though he had nothing to say on the demand but  his stand was very clear that he was with the state and its people.

Meanwhile, the Lok Janshakti party in Meghalaya has decided to communicate to its Central High Command to issue whip to oppose the Bill in Rajya Sabha.

“ We are of the view that the Citizenship Amendment Bill was not in the interest of the local people of North East ,” a statement issued by the party said.

The State Committee of the party would also suggest the Union Home Ministry to discuss the Bill thoroughly with the protesting organizations.

The party, meanwhile, has also strongly condemn the lawlessness in Assam and North East and has appealed to the protesting organisations to not to take the law in their hands
