SHILLONG: The Leader of the Opposition, Mukul Sangma, on Tuesday termed the move as one of the biggest betrayals of the people of the country and the region by any government.
Questioning the BJP about its mandate to impose the agenda, “which is not acceptable to people”, Sangma said leaders at different levels in the region will not align with this agenda of the BJP. “Even people who are in the BJP and Sarbananda Sonowal had said he would protect the interest of the people of Assam but now how will he protect their interest,” Sangma told The Shillong Times over phone.
“This is the biggest betrayal to the people of the nation and the region ever by any government,” he added.
Lambasting all allies of the BJP, Sangma said they are continuing with the alliance because they are driven by greed for power and “they should resign and join the masses”. Urging the government to anticipate the fallout of the bill, Sangma feared there would be “constant anger and frustration which would create chaos in the region”. “How will they control and restrain the fallout? Are they going to crush our people,” he said adding, “So it’s a sad day because those who are expected to join the people and raise their voice are keeping quite. When it concerns the people of the region and the nation we should raise voice.”
