SHILLONG: In a positive indication, Meghalaya has achieved 92 per cent coverage in Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MRVC) campaign.

This was informed in a  State Level Workshop on MRVC review and Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme held on Thursday which was chaired by Pravin Bakshi, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare cum Mission Director, NHM, Meghalaya.

Pravin Bakshi informed that out of 11,56,036 children, 10,67,655 were vaccinated during MRVC taking the State to achieve a total of 92 per cent.

While commending the efforts of the District M C H Officers and their team he said that every district had its own set of challenges and though the State has achieved 92 percent the drive will be intensified  to achieve 95 percent in the days ahead.

He added that areas where more numberof children were to be covered would be identified with a special focus on refusal areas and check the size of the refusal pockets.

He further said that in districts where coverage percentage is low dedicated cells would be created to make calls to private hospitals, schools and community about the importance of the vaccination.

Later, he said that the coverage was low in East Khasi Hills since it is a huge district and more than 20  per cent of the children who have to be vaccinated are in East Khasi Hills.

“ So now we will be focusing on East Khasi Hills district,”he said.
