Mawkyrwat: The Hills State People’s Democratic Party on Wednesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing strong opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and suggested that if it was to be implemented in the NE, Bangladesh should be “excluded” from the Bill.
Party general secretary, Renik L. Tongkhar informed that the party held a meeting recently at Shillong and expressed concern on the contents of this Bill and therefore had unanimously resolved to oppose it in the present form.
“By implementing this Bill, it will act as an opened gate for the influx in the North Eastern States,” Tongkhar said.
Tongkhar also said that “if this amendment has to be implemented, we earnestly pray to “exclude” Bangladesh from this Bill and we assure that people from the NE will support the Amendment”.
