SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police have registered suo moto cases against different NGOs in the state for calling for agitations in the city recently
Police said that a suo moto case was registered that on January 11 around noon when eaders and members of HYNF, RBYF and FKJGP had gathered at Khyndai Lad (Police Bazar), Shillong near Old Assembly building gate in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, without prior permission of the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills.
Police said the gathering and protesting at a busy location had created fear psychosis amongst the public besides obstructing movement of vehicles causing inconvenience to the public at large. Further, certain leaders of the various NGOs gave speeches which promote enmity between different communities and religions.
A suo moto case was registered that on January 9 when Confederation of Hynniewtrep Social Organisation (CoHSO) had called for ‘Road blockade’ on January 10, 2018 from 7 pm to 5 am of Jan. 11, 2018 in entire State of Meghalaya thereby violating the order passed by High Court of Meghalaya.
Another such case was registered on January 7 when North East Students’ Organization NESO supported by KSU had called a Bandh on January 8, 2018 from 5 am to 4 pm, in entire North East region by distributing pamphlets in the streets of Shillong in protest against the passing of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in Parliament, thereby violating the order passed by High Court of Meghalaya banning calls and publishing through any medium for bandh or road blockades which may disrupt normal life in the State.
