‘WY’ tablets, brown sugar worth rupees 5.78 crores seized in Manipur

GUWAHATI: The Assam Rifles has seized a huge consignment of contraband tablets and brown sugar worth over Rs 5.78 crore during checking of a vehicle at Khudengthabi located at National Highway 102, Imphal-Moreh Road and arrested the courier.

 

The paramilitary force entrusted to guard the frontier with Myanmar informed that a team of Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles apprehended one narcotics smuggler carrying 1,44,000 numbers of  banned WY (world is yours) tablets and 732 grams brown sugar at the permanent vehicle check post at Khudengthabi located at National Highway 102, Imphal-Moreh Road on Sunday. To road leads to Myanmar through Moreh borer town.

 

Acting on a tip-off  provided by the DRI, the Assam Rifles troops at Kudengthabi Post on stopped a silver colour Maruti Omni Van, bearing registration No. MN04A 8994 travelling from Moreh to Imphal for checking on Sunday afternoon.

 

The troops while carrying out checking, found blue coloured packets carrying 1,44,000 numbers of  “World is Yours”  tablets and a packet containing  orange coloured powder suspected to be brown sugar weighing approximately 732 grams. The contraband drugs were found hidden inside charcoal bags kept at the rear of the vehicle. 

 

The driver of the vehicle Noor Khan (31) from  Urup Awang Leikei, Urup, Lilong of Thoubal district, was also apprehended. The seized drugs were handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal.
