SHILLONG/ NEW DELHI: The state Congress has rejected any internal rift over party ticket for Shillong parliamentary seat.
According to reports, both MP Vincent Pala and former legislator HDR Lyngdoh were in the race for party ticket for the Lok Sabha election.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Congress MLA P T Sawkmie said there is no clash over ticket and the party is inviting applications from aspiring candidates.
“The party has invited applications and anyone can apply. The Congress till date has not declared any candidate for the Lok Sabha election. It is up to the party to decide although there is a plus point for the sitting MP,” he added.
When Pala was asked about the reported row, the MP said he was aware of Lyngdoh applying for ticket from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
“I know this and there is nothing unusual since HDR also belongs to the Congress party,” Pala told The Shillong Times.
When asked if he would apply for ticket, the two-time MP answered in positive.
“Ours is a democratic party where every member can show his interest in any post. It is our party’s internal matter and we will settle it in consultation with the state party unit and the AICC,” he added.
