SHILLONG: The confederation of Hynniewtrep Social Organisations (CoHSO) will organise a public meeting at Khliehriat West on January 28 at 11 am to create awareness on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), 2016.

In a statement issued here, president of East Jaintia National Council (EJNC), Sambormi Lyngdoh on behalf of CoHSO urged the public to participate in the programme to send out a message of unity of the minority communities in the state.

He raised a concern on the increasing influx of illegal immigrants in the East Jaintia Hills District and the state as a whole which will have an impact on the economic activity of the minority groups.

Criticising the BJP, Lyngdoh went on to allege that the CAB is an attempt of the saffron party to wipe out the indigenous communities.

It may be mentioned that the CAB has created series of agitations in the North Eastern states who feel that the arrival of the population from Afghanistan, Pakistan and especially Bangladesh is a threat to the indigenous communities in the Northeast.
