Week-long revelry for statehood, R-Day

MAWKYRWAT: The office of the deputy commissioner here has planned a week-long programme on the theme ‘Celebrating Meghalaya-India’ on the occasion of 47th statehood day and 70th Republic Day.
The programme will start with the celebration of Meghalaya Day on Monday at Laitlawsang followed by traditional archery competition on the premises of the DC office.
On January 23, an open quiz and extempore competition will be held at Mawkyrwat Market from 11 am. On January 24, traditional singing competition (solo and group) and traditional dancing competition (group) will be organised at Laitlawsang.
The weeklong celebration will end with the observation of Republic Day at Maharam Government HS School. Events will include traditional Mawpoint, cockfight and modern archery.
Those who are interested in participating in the events have to enrol at the offices of the Basin Development Unit and the deputy commissioner.
