SHILLONG: More than three decades have passed, but the proposed Hotel Crowborough is far from completion and now the soft opening of the Hotel is slated for January next year.
MLA Sanbor Shullai, who is also the Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation, along with MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Chairman MIDC, and officials from both the departments, carried out a a joint inspection of the project on Thursday to take stock of the progress of work.
During the inspection, it was informed by the project in-charge that the work is in progress and the soft opening of the hotel will be done by January, 2020.
It may be mentioned that the hotel has partnered with France-based Accor hotel group and Novotel, the internationally acclaimed brand from the group, will make its debut in the state capital.
The hotel will be able to provide jobs to 150 people as informed by the project in-charge. Shullai asked the project in-charge to employ locals as there are plenty of local youth who are now trained to work in the hotel industry and to also give opportunity to local contractors to execute the work so as to promote self-employment.
The Crowborough hotel was tipped to be Shillong first 5 star hotel. The hotel was conceptualised way back in the late 1980s. The delay of decades in completion of the project has become a state shame.
The hotel was supposed to comprise 8 economy rooms, 58 standard rooms, 30 deluxe rooms, 5 suites, a 100-seat coffee shop, 80-seat specialty (Indian / multi-cuisine) restaurant, 50-seat bar, 35-seat lounge, discotheque, banquet hall, convention facilities with state-of-the-art seating and projection facilities, smaller meeting and committee rooms, guest amenities like beauty parlour, health club with fully equipped gym, steam, sauna and massage facilities.
