3 Assam college professors die in mishap

GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident, three professors of Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah College in Teok, about 25km off Jorhat town, died after the vehicle (Scorpio) they were travelling in collided head on with a tanker near Dergaon on Wednesday night.

Sources said the mishap took place at Balijan (NH 37) at 10.25pm and the deceased were identified as Ranjit Ranjan Saikia, Keshav Hazarika and Jintumoni Phukan.

They were coming from Sarupathar after attending an inter-college youth festival of Dibrugarh University. Another person, identified as Naren Saikia, was seriously injured and is now undergoing treatment.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the death of the three lecturers. “I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of three lecturers of CKB College in a road accident. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and pray for eternal peace of the departed souls,” Sonowal said in a statement issued on Thursday. He also prayed for early recovery of the injured person.
